Point Dume State Beach sits beneath the dramatic headland that marks Malibu's midpoint, where sandstone cliffs rise above a sheltered, snorkel-friendly cove. A short climb to the Point Dume Natural Preserve overlook rewards visitors with sweeping coastline views and, from winter into spring, one of the best shore-based whale-watching vantages in Southern California. The protected cove is calmer than the open beachbreaks nearby, making it popular for swimming and tidepooling, while the adjacent reef at Little Dume is a localized surf spot with limited public access.
