Carbon Beach, known locally as "Billionaire's Beach" for the row of oceanfront estates lining it, runs along Pacific Coast Highway just east of the Malibu Pier. Several marked public-access paths thread between the houses down to a long, sandy strand that is quieter than Malibu's state beaches. The wet sand below the mean high-tide line is public, so a walk along the water is open to everyone despite the exclusive frontage. It's best for a low-key stroll or a swim on calm days rather than amenities, which are minimal.
