Surfrider Beach, fronting Malibu Lagoon and the historic Malibu Pier, is the world's first World Surfing Reserve and arguably the most storied wave in California. Its long, peeling right point breaks best on summer south swells, drawing crowds from beginners on longboards at First Point to advanced surfers on the faster Second and Third Points. Behind the break, the restored Malibu Lagoon is a protected wetland and birding habitat with the Adamson House museum on its edge. Water quality can suffer after rain when the lagoon flushes, and rocks and urchins appear at low tide, but on a clean summer day it is Malibu at its most iconic.
