Nicholas Flat Trail climbs from the coast at Leo Carrillo into the highlands above, reaching a grassy plateau and seasonal pond ringed by oaks and dramatic rock outcrops. The full route is a strenuous climb with panoramic ocean views as the reward, and the flat itself makes a peaceful destination for a picnic. The trailhead is at the north end of Leo Carrillo State Park.
