The Point Dume Overlook crowns the dramatic headland at the Point Dume Natural Preserve, reached by a short trail up the bluff behind the point. A level boardwalk leads to a viewing platform, while the trail to the top gains just a little elevation to a memorial plaque and a fenced crown with sweeping 270-degree views — west over the white sands of Westward and Zuma toward Point Mugu, and inland across the Santa Monica Mountains. Seasonally (roughly December to April) it's one of the best shore-based whale-watching spots in Southern California, and a favorite for sunset. Parking on the bluff is very limited and fills early.
